To promote and encourage the preservation of the Portuguese pointer (Perdigueiro Português).
To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed by encouraging participation and sportsmanship in conformation shows and field events.
To urge members, breeders, and judges to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the United Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Portuguese pointers shall be judged.
To provide educational forums on the care, training and breeding of Portuguese pointers as well as hosting matches, shows, and field events in accordance with the rules of the United Kennel Club
To assist in a rescue service for displaced Portuguese pointers.

On June 10, 2005, the Portuguese Pointer Club of America completed the American Kennel Club's requirements for the inclusion of the Portuguese pointer in the AKC's Foundation Stock Service (FSS) Program. The following month on August 4, 2005, the PPCA was approved by the United Kennel Club as a Single Breed (Portuguese pointer) club. Later that year, on November 12, 2005, the PPCA held its first UKC event, a TAN for pointing breeds. The PPCA was recently approved to hold UKC conformation events. These activities represent the beginning of our goal to do everything possible to protect and advance the best interests of the Portuguese pointer.
